Hi there,
My name´s Mark, also known as positionhigh, at least if you are old
enough to remember the early years of www.mp3.com :_)
I´m into doctor who and into music since many many years, published
some albums and single tracks, but only as a hobby.
I hope you enjoy my version of the theme song, I tried my best to
reproduce the overall sound and feeling of this song
which isn´t that easy as it seems if you haven´t tried it
yourself :_) I think this took me many days of work. please tell me
what you and your site visitors think
of it. |

This is an excellent remix, even though it's based on the McCulloch theme (one of my least favorites), it takes on a whole new life of its own, and it sounds simply fantastic! Excellent work, really! Brilliant theme. I hope to hear more from you soon. :)
- Danny Stewart (2005.12.29 22:52)
I totally agree with Danny Stewart. It is so much better than the McCulloch theme (although sounds based on it). It sounds very good for your first version of the theme. Polished and many great sounds in the mix! please do more and a longer version perhaps?
- neil coates (2005.12.30 02:15)
Took me back to be 5 years old again. Excellent stuff.
- Jake Mann (2005.12.30 06:06)
I like it...... I dont know what need there is for anything else but I have to ramble on for at least 50 characters so I'll just add 'nice one'
- JoGGer (2005.12.30 08:44)
I think you should do a version with added sound effects from the mcculloch theme,oh,and the remix is good :-)
- Ronn (2005.12.30 08:48)
Good Lord!! I really like that...definately one of the best ones to appear on the site in quite a while! Would love to hear more work from you.
- MichaelG (2005.12.30 09:46)
Very nicely done! I quite like the liberties you've taken with the bass line. They add a new layer to an other wise familiar tune and is very welcome indeed! Nice synth work too!
- Allan Spears (2005.12.30 15:51)
really well done ... like your music ;-) Perhaps it could be a bit more agressive, nut really really well done
- pixus (2005.12.31 02:56)
A really nice mix. I usually prefer the more orchestrated, bomabastic themes, but this makes for a nice change. Hope you'll do more.
- jeriwho (2005.12.31 03:38)
hi there,
thank you all very much for your comments.
and yes you´re right, it´s based on the McCulloch Theme, which was the first one i´ve seen/heard when i got into Doctor Who. This may be the reason i like it most. I have very much respect to the Original Derbyshire Version too, so i´ve choosen the Lead Sound to go Derbyshire "Sinewave" and the bassline and other things to McCulloch´s Style. I´ve you interested in some technical way, i´ve used no samples expect the Tardis-Landing-Sound. All other is completely synthesized by me.
regards and a happy new year,
mark
- positionhigh (2005.12.31 05:09)
Absolutely brilliant, well done! Keppp up the good work :D
- Celebgil (2005.12.31 09:13)
I really liked this! Simple and easy listening. Keep making remixes of this quality.
- Tom (2005.12.31 12:58)
I loved it, also the Keff Mcculloch theme isn't my favourite but I've started to gain new respect for it, this is a great new mix and possitively one of the best mixes on this site that I've heard for a while. Always great to hear of fresh blood here, hope to here more from you soon.
- Ben Dawson Punshon (2005.12.31 17:00)
So many good mixes released in the last few days!!! This is just amazing and stands on it's own! This could easily be used on the title sequence of the new series!! Brilliant!
Happy New Year
- Chris Rice (2006.01.01 14:14)
Wow, if only Keff's was this good!
Love to hear more soon.
- Dude who disappears (2006.01.01 14:34)

- Tom Wedel (the boy with golden screwdriver) (2006.01.01 15:17)
All I can say if you have taken a version I hated for the longest time and made it just a breathtaking peace of work. Awesome job. Downloaded and added to my favorites. Keep up the awesome work.
- DJNsomniac (2006.01.03 22:56)
i love this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- blabla.com (2006.01.06 11:22)
A very interesting remix! Superb quality, and some very high quality samples too! I also have a soft-spot for the McCulloch theme. It feels like it should be wearing seaquin flares, it's so ..... 80s!
There's not really a heck of a lot to fault in this one. It's clean, fresh, good tempo, good feel. I'd agree that it's not aggressive enough.. the DW theme has always (until McCulloch) had a certain edginess to it, so that right from the first millisecond of the 'scream' you know you're in for a thrill.
Perhaps a little more distortion, and perhaps an ever-so-slight synchopation, like a 1/8th beat or something?. My second comment is that you have the main-theme "bumbly-bum" right from the get-go. The DW theme has a 'lead-in' section which has a slightly different beat "bumblybum--bumbum,bumbum" instead of "bumblybum--bum--bumblybum...." I don't know if you left it as the main bumbly-bum intentionally though. I'm not really a musician, so I don't know how to articulate it properly, sorry.
All in all, a great piece!
- Nick, some planet's North (2006.01.06 15:07)
hi there,
thank you all again for the new comments, keep on goin:_) i´ll like to hear more feedback. some ansfers for the newer comments:
to nick: i haven´t used any samples, the only sample is the tardis sound which appears 2 or 3 times during the song. every else is synthesized by me. i think i know what you mean about the intro bassline - i have played with it a couple of hours and decided to go mainly with the mcculloch bassline - but if you listen carefully you can hear the "classic" bassline, too. it´s a little subtle. i know that most doctor who fans don´t like the mcculloch theme - but at least it is the only one i know of, who has a modified/simplified bassline and i must say, i really like it. what i didn´t like so much is the saw-lead-sound, so i decided to use a more "classic" one.
regards mark,
hope to hear even more comments,
bye

Hey PH,
In that case, that's pretty awesome. The quality of the samples is darned impressive. I had just taken it for granted you'd ripped them from a DVD and cleaned them up. I'm sorry my description sucks.. You can get the sheet music from here:-
http://www.mondas.org/soundmusic/drwhosheetmusic.zip
If you don't already have it. If you look at the first line, you see it does "dum-bumbumbum,dum-bumbumbum..", whereas from the second line onwards it goes "duh-diddly-du'duh-diddiy-du'duh-diddly" and so on. God this is childish, haha.. MASSIVE APOLOGIES! The real musicians are probably pissing themselves laughing right now... hehe..
And don't listen to all the Anti-Keffites, some of the best mixes on the site have some Keff in them. :)
- Nick, some planet's North (2006.01.07 11:06)
hi very good piece i like the middle 8 aka the B part
very 80 and a constrouctive piece and very funky
Oh yea one more thing should be longer
- Katie mannings bouncy tits (2006.01.07 11:45)
aha...thanks to danny stewart and his knowledge of ubuntu I can now listen to...things! yay
liked this a lot....richer and more atmospheric in places...I like :0
- macfadyan (2006.01.17 19:27)
This sounds like it could have been a fourth or fifth McCoy season! Excellent work
- Phil (2006.01.19 16:03)
It's good to hear the McCulloch theme done with the traditional opening bassline. The bassline is the best part of this theme and as it gets going the stereo adds a lot to it's success, giving it a real floating atmosphere. Not so keen on the Dominic Glynn moments (the twiddly bit he added to his version crops up in places) — Keff's was more sombre under all the 'pop' sounds, but apart from that a great alternative version.
I like the idea from some of the comments above about sampling the McCulloch theme in an updated version (Murray Gold has a lot to answer for doesn't he!)
- DB (2006.01.29 08:03)
Absolutely fantastic! It keeps the electronic ambience that made both the McCulloch and the original Derbyshire themes so good. The beefing of the bassline fixes the main problem McCulloch's had. I really think you could set this to the Oliver Elmes graphics (Series 24+) graphics and have a real winner...
- JB (2006.02.06 17:36)
Honestly, this sounds closer to a Mark Ayres' approach than McCulloch. I like!
- Bad Wolff (2006.02.08 14:58)
This is really good, thought based on the not so good McColloch theme. But it's actually much better than it, so nicely done my friend!
- Smiley (2006.02.22 17:27)
Great fun. The sparkle works well with the familiar de dum de dum that we all know and love. Keep it up!
- Pydos (2006.04.19 02:15)
My dad says it's not rich enough, but we listened to it on a mobile.
- flicky1991 (2006.10.17 13:48)

- The 14th Doctor - Bjmorley (2007.07.22 01:41)
