Here is the update to the Regenerations mix for 2006. All credits go to
Derbyshire,Howell,Glynn,McCulloch,Debney,Gold/Hardwire and of course Grainer as
usual... |

Interesting. Similar to Whovolution but different somehow. I like it.
- charles (2006.08.05 01:45)
This track is fantastic, i love the way the differenct styles of theme music all blend together and really make the ending fantastic. from the Movie theme tune onwards its much deeper and more effective i feel, great work
- Timelord5997 (2006.08.05 02:04)
I loved the original and I loved this! It's great to listen to the classic Derbyshire version and then compare to the Murray Gold version, as well as all the others in-between. And I like how you melded the 9th Doctor and 10th Doctor theme together at the end. Well done!
- Dalek104 (2006.08.05 04:39)
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG This is FANTASTIC! I love the way you have made each theme meld into the next!
- Drakel (2006.08.05 08:16)
this. is. epic. FAN- BLOODY- TASTIC! better editing, better sound quality, better sampling, love the use of the tennent theme . can any one top this? top marks, mate!
- doctor paul (2006.08.05 08:36)
For David Tennants closing theme, did you use both the Hardwire remix and the actual Murray Gold version. Because there was some parts that sounded a little different, like the brassy part in the Middle Eight sounded a lot like the Gold version, but the bass line on that part sounds like Hardwire's version and the ending is deffinitely Murray Gold's version.
If you don't mind me asking, where did you find David Tennants closing theme?
Fantastic, just what I asked for on the Regenerations mix (to use David Tennants theme).
Thank you.
- Ben Dawson Punshon (2006.08.05 13:22)
I think someone posted the Tennant closing theme on Danny Stewart's forum, and that version was edited from several broadcasts to eliminate the annoying BBC continuity announcer(s) who kept blathering on over the closing theme during the original broadcasts.
As for the Gold version, it sounds like both the Eccleston and Tennant versions were used, but probably not Hardwire's version.
Very well done.
For 2007 (or sooner if possible), would you be able to find a wat to include David Arnold's Big Finish McGann theme?
Thanks again.
- Alan G. (2006.08.05 13:45)
One other thing - love the video. What software did you use to create it? Thanks again.
- Alan G. (2006.08.05 13:54)
Reminds me of the time I attempted something very similar - back in the days when all I had was a couple of records and a cassette recorder. Very crude compared to this one, but I enjoyed it!
- Mantrashak (2006.08.06 03:31)
Hi Alan -- yes, I created and posted the full length series two closing theme on my web site just before the BBC forced me to close up shop. It is still available on the forums for registered users though. (Although I do not approve of people simply registering on my site to gain access to Doctor Who themes -- it is an online community and if you join it I expect some participation at least.) Thanks. :)
- Danny Stewart (2006.08.06 08:29)
I really like this, especially the shift from 9 to 10. And call me crazy but is it a touch slower? If I had one request (and I think I'm the only one who made it last time) is if there were 5 sec more of Debney that could be squeezed in. I know, I know, it only flows properly with the bit there but I just like Debney.
- Bartolomeo (2006.08.06 14:24)
What can i say.......................................................................................................Utterly BRILLIANT!!
- The Doc? (2006.08.06 14:27)
Brilliant! At least 135 out of 10. If only it was available in an i-tunes format I would download it onto my ipod so I could listen to it all day
- Andy (2006.08.06 15:03)
Andy, you can import MP3 files into iTunes and transfer them to your iPod very easily. Just save the mix above to your computer and drag and drop it (or File > Import it) into iTunes.
- Danny Stewart (2006.08.06 15:45)
Don't think it's possible not to enjoy an update to the Regenerations series, even if I'm not as fond of the newest arrangement.
Alan G - the video is made using Adobe's free Flex 2 SDK (Action Script 3). If you're interested in tinkering, I could send you the sources - it's not all that complex.
- mutagene (2006.08.07 05:45)
Oops, I should clarify that it's the TCI arrangement that I'm not as fond of, not Nick's job of stringing it all together.
- mutagene (2006.08.07 08:02)
Doctor Who from start to present in music. Very good mix.
- Milamber (2006.08.07 16:22)
There are two notable changes from your original 'Regenerations' mix - I see that the opening Derbyshire theme is more Hartnellesque rather than Tom Bakerish and, obviously, the David Tennant ending is a welcome addition - but I have to say that apart from that I was disappointed that you hadn't fiddled around with the other themes a bit more cos all the rest is essentially the same as your previous mix - if you consider or intend on creating a 2007 mix then I'd like to see an extension on the Debney TV Movie theme and the McCulloch theme sounds much more cheesier than I remember from watching the opening titles on the DVD releases which had much more impressive sound effects and bass line :-)
- Dan P (2006.08.09 01:24)
I just cant get enough of this remix. Absolutely FANTASTIC. I keep on playing it on my pc for my son to hear. He loves it
- k9's trainer (2006.08.09 07:58)
brilliant!!
- blabla.com (2006.08.09 12:33)

- blabla.com (2006.08.09 12:43)
I loved the older version of the regenerations an I am happy that you have updated it. Thank.
P.S Its Brill
- Penk Broadcasting (2006.08.10 02:34)
the blend between the eccleston and tennant going into the middle 8? beautiful.
- Nergy (2006.08.10 05:50)
Is that the Christmas theme at the end? I thought it was. Loved every second of it. More, more, more!!
- toyah13 (2006.08.10 13:19)
Excellent mix like the previous two. I want to learn about how you did it, but how can I get a hold of you via email? The link here is down.
- kaylon (2006.08.16 14:30)
For some odd reason, I really like the melding of the Debney theme with the Gold theme (2:41). Very nice work.
- James (2006.08.18 19:33)
Terrific! The Whomix site is wonderful---great mixes/arrangements---but this is the best one so far. Ever try for a full-length version of the Derbyshire/Howell version that was played over the closing titles to The Five Doctors? Sadly, it's not in the suite from the score included on the US version of the Five Doctors DVD (but the opening is, though). Is there a version of Whomix for videos? I'd love to see people trying their own approaches to open/close title sequences, perhaps using some of the remixes (what would the 8th Dr. titles have looked like, for example?).
And a Ventures-style arrangement would be fun (along the lines of "He Never Came Back" from 'In Space')!
- msndrspdx (2006.08.20 00:58)
LOVE IT! Its awsoum how youve managed to put all 10 themes together.
10/10.
- DOCTAR (2006.08.27 12:58)
In the words of our Northern Star, Chris Eccleston....FANTASTIC! I love the blending from one to the other. So effective. Nice work!
- Benny the otter (2006.08.28 15:48)
AWSOME, I Have loved all the Regenerations mixes, but this one is by and far the best, cant wait for the next version,WELL DONE NICK KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
- Timelord R101 (2006.08.29 15:42)
Hey everyone *Smile* Am I being thick here or er..... Has this been done before? Don't get me wrong i love this just as much as you guys but er... if this is a (New Version) how come it sounds the same as the other Regenerations one he did? I can't tell the difference in this particular Mix! Although I have to say it's Bloody Brilliant and love it!!
x
- Jai (2006.08.30 04:59)
the last mix featured Christopher Ecclestons theme as the finishing theme, this one features David Tennants closing theme as the finishing theme (mixed in with Hardwires Good as Gold TCI). That's the difference.
- Ben Dawson Punshon (2006.08.30 10:44)
A thunderous round of applause. I've heard other amalgamations of the various Who themes here but this is by far the best. The transition from one theme to the next was flawless. My only gripe is that I wish there had been a bit more of the movie theme . I know most people don't care much for it but I personally always liked it. Aside from that this was a very enjoyable piece. Cudos on a job well done.
- J W (2006.09.07 01:40)
brilliant! ablsolutly brilliant i think the term regenerratation really matches the music because it "regenerates" into the next doctors era really clever and is similar to whovolutionbut different which makes it lovely an absolute thriller..... could be a children in need special ending! job well done!
- doctor ben (2006.09.07 05:31)
I love this. I love it so much, I made a video. :D For those interested: www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2axbOxdFXA
Many of the transitions aren't as good as I'd like, but I think it's a pretty decent first go at doing something like this. Many of the other similar videos aren't very well synched: the Eccleston theme playing over McCoy's intro, for example. I tried very hard to get mine to match up at least somewhat decently.
Again, awesome work, Nick. Others have said it better than I.
- Ian (2006.09.11 07:51)
As with everyone else, this is great stuff, absolutely perfect. But I'm also a huge fan of the movie theme and could stand to hear a little bit more of it shoved in there... even though I know you don't like it.
- Zev (2006.09.17 07:17)
Absofnlutelyfantastic!!
F a n t a s t i c !
- K-9 (2006.09.20 16:33)
If this had the explosion at the end like the Red Dwarf theme it would be definitive. The balance is superb, its mysterious, it's heroic without pomposity, it feeds your ears with sounds from every imaginable angle, it's synthetic and orchestrated, its the old and the new its wonderfully whovian spectacular.
Its befitting the nobility of all the Doctors and their partners; pays homage to the old and adds the bold joy of the new, It captures the danger, the mystery, and the driving inevitable grand heroism of the Doctor, like a march of hypnotic grandeur and destiny. Wow!
Sorry,I had to double post.
I am on my umteenthplayback.
- K-9 (2006.09.20 16:58)
The only bad thing to say about this new mix is that the Debney theme really sticks out like a sore thumb. I do like the TVM theme but it doesn't blend well with the themes either side of it (is it in a different time sig or something?). I much preferred the way the McCoy theme blended into the Eccleston one.
Have you tried using the BF Mcgann theme instead of the one from the TVM?
Other than that, keep up the good work!
- AukonDK (2006.09.23 00:52)
All I can say is AWESOME! This is a wonderful tribute to all the themes past and present with a strong climax at the end!
- DoctorWho09 (2006.09.25 18:03)
this is a fan boy's wet dream! absolutely amazing...ive never heard a mix of the themes so good. am sure a version like this plays in every fans head and someone has finally been commited enough to produce this utterly fantastic faithful work. i'd kiss you if i could! this will play at my funeral...and thats a good thing. i swear!
- Sorvad (2006.10.08 08:58)
Pretty much ditto what Sorvad said, this is awesome and its nice to hear all the themes mixed so well. Certainly one of the best I've heard.
- J.B (Dalek-Sec) (2006.10.08 11:56)
By far the best representation of the Doctor Who theme. I find this to be extremely satisfying as I always wanted to hear all the themes together, and this was pulled off beautifully! Kudos to you Nick.
- Michael D. Herman (2006.10.12 16:09)
I cannot describe this I just keep listening to it. by the way, where did you get david tennants theme from??
best remix ever!!
- Dalek Thay (2006.10.14 04:50)
I am so impressed at this theme, I mean the flow through is fantastic. Never heard anything so well matched including your eccleston extension flow so that you could include the BBC Wales theme. 10 out of 10 mate
- westrack44 in Australia (2006.10.15 01:04)
absolutely fantastic! Out of sheer curiosity, how do you create the spangle effect for the derbyshire theme?
- Dalekium (2006.10.17 10:11)
Whoa...the end orchestrational version of the theme that was used toward the end there was AWESOME!! Where can I get the original/full version of the orchestrational version??
- Peter (2006.10.21 13:24)
That was flippin amazing!! loved the way Debney melded into Murreys with that wicked crunch from the early version of his theme!
Top stuff best of the best!
Oh and my son whose 3 thought it was great too!
- Anthony & Bayley (2006.10.22 04:22)
id love to get my hands on the full version of the closeing credits of the 2006 series
Anyone know where?
- Archer (2006.10.24 01:18)
We are not worthy !
I have only this evening discovered whomix.trilete.net and THIS is the mix I have been waiting for. Thank you.
- Greydalek1962 (2006.10.24 15:23)
Just came here off of a link from Google. Listened to several things and... This is the first I really wanted to listen to all the way through. Great job! Thanks for sharing.
- Sterling (2006.10.25 21:02)
Absolutely ace. Fantastic job, especially 8th > 9th Doctor Themes, certainly makes up for the lack of a regeneration scene. Brilliant Job.
- Michael (2006.10.28 02:17)
perfectly awesome! Mixes come in fine, maybe a little ealier on 6th docs, but
man its great!
- Kyle (2006.11.11 02:50)
I definitely like this, though the McGann TV Movie theme sounded off-key somehow. Did you pitch shift it a little bit? I like how it bleeds into the 2006 version of the theme (which I believe is Hardwire’s theme, yes?) I’ve tried doing this on my own before and could never get it to work right. Smashing job!
Where did you get the McCoy theme? It sounds a lot deeper and with more base tones than in the original version.
Also, the orchestral version of the theme in the end was extremely high quality and ended in a way I’ve not heard in the various different builds of the Tennant ending theme. Where did you pick it up at?
- J. Thomas Jeans (2006.11.13 21:09)
I very good version of the Dr Who theme.
I must say I do love the more orchestral version of the theme tune and this was surley that alright, however it did sound far too much like a version I have on a BBC TV themes CD that I have.
However it was done I much say this version of the theme was first class and would work well as any opening theme to any Dr Who movie
It has to be given an A+ and 10 out of 10
- etlcstn (2006.11.15 16:40)
I'm not a music buff; just a die-hard Doctor Who fan who recently got cable tv.
Oh my god...oh my god....OH MY GOD!
Do you know how many stores I've gone to searching for ANYTHING on Doctor Who's music so I can hear the whole thing? Where I'm at the stupid television station CUTS IT OFF PARTWAY THRU THE END CREDITS!
God I love this. Dare I say its Fan-TAS-tic? Yes! Love the ending. You can almost see the Doctor fighting to stop evil near the ending minute and then the triumph of defeating them before it closes with him going on to his next adventure. The only thing that puzzles me is what sounds like a bird in the Time/Space Vortex.....
Oh well. Major Kudos and if I wasn't too old for it I'd offer you a love child!
- kyer (2006.11.17 07:27)
It sounds exactly like evolutions to me. Except for the 10th doctor ending
- Ood Commander (2006.11.24 14:28)
Simple, excellent and effecive work - I liked the last version and I like this even better. The close proximity does rather show up the TVM version as a poor effort compared to Murray Gold's soaring orchestrations, but the overall impression of this medley is great.
- Andrew (2006.11.28 14:13)
This is great! I love how all the different variations of the theme flow into each other. Good job!
- archaeopteryx4468 (2006.11.29 04:15)
I adored your original Regenerations mix, but boy have you topped it. Much cleverer mixing and finally with the TCI theme in as well. Faultless and utterly, utterly superb.
- Wisteela (2006.12.17 20:22)
Amazing work! Everything melds together perfectly from the first theme to the last. The end is the best, though maybe it's because Sci-Fi channel always runs commercials on top of Tennant's end theme and thus I'd never actually heard it before! :-p
Here's to "Regenerations 2026!"
- Redneck Doctor (2007.01.22 21:49)
i miss christopher eccleston cause he was my brill at bein doctor who
- sophie gordon (2007.01.23 10:23)
Zen Doctor? wow, the different generations of themes blended as they were done here are just phonominal! excellent work and it brings chills up my spine as if it were sending me back to all those times!
Music one of the most strongest mediums for time travel and you've done it! Youv'e created the ultimate TARDIS!!
Viva the Doctor!
- Lydushka (2007.01.24 06:19)
Lydushka, you're right! Music is one of the strongest forms of memory retention (just ask anyone who grew up thru Beatlemania), and this mix does just that for almost every Dr Who fan! You ought to offer this to BBC as the close to the next Xmas special kickoff to the next season (or at least for the soundtrack CD!) The jaws of those who haven't heard this before will drop when they do! Best, M. ;->
- msndrspdx (2007.01.31 11:44)
Another wonderful melding of themes! Thank you Nick! Perfect craftsmanship!
- jeriwho (2007.02.27 08:31)
Very nice mixing, it is similar to 'dr Who Evolution', but 'Dr Who Evolution' didn't have the David Tennant credits music, it had the Chris Eccleston music. I like it.
- TheDoctor11 (2007.04.11 11:22)
I realy enjoy this mix and its somthing Ive wanted to hear for years is a mix of all the themes one after the other. I would like to hear a version that uses the Orbital theme which I think is a realy haunting theme and I like especially the intro beats how they start slow and build into the main theme, it would be intresting to see if perhaps you could make the Hartnell intro begin like the orbital one and also include before the big woosh sound the thunder clap as used in the pilot episode, I would also like to hear more of the origional themes individually like the pure Hartnell version with the B section before moving into the Pertwee style theme with its like double or echoed beats and the rippleing soung in the background as it moves towards the end of the intro into the Davison B section. There is a new version of the full Howell theme on the new Castrovalva DVD which realy builds to a climax after the second time of playing the B section before it returns to the A section I would like to hear some parts like that used, other intresting parts used are in the Colin Baker - Glyn theme just after the A section in the intro and just after the B section in the end theme. I would also like to hear the B section played in the McCoy theme aswell as the A section in the McGann theme rather than just a short teaser. In the origional episode the Hartnell theme began and ended with the main intro beat, it would be intresting to see if you could make each tune do that and merge on the beat, it would make the whole theme longer but I think a good listen and good to hear that opening beat to each theme and close it to, as a final thought I like the Derbyshire Howell fusion mix's and think it might be intresting to take parts from each theme and mix them like the wooshing from Hartnell's theme, the rippling sound from Pertwees, the tune from Davisons, the whizzes and beeps from C. Bakers the beat from McCoys and the horns, strings, piano and drums from McGanns and Ecclestons/Tennants. I like what you have done so far Nick and lookforward to hearing more from you soon, these are just a few of my ideas which you may have already had but I hope you can do somthing with them.
- David Renwick (D.R. Who) (2007.05.05 15:29)
Bloody fantastic!!
DR WHO 4 EVER
- Drwho4ever (2007.06.16 13:55)
Love your mixes. All of them! What else can I say but outstanding!
- Tim (2007.10.21 10:54)
This is definately the best mix on the entire site!!
- Kam Uraki (2007.12.20 15:01)
Still sounds fantastic...can't wait for an update with the 'new' Tennant theme included!!
- Andy Bailey (2007.12.30 08:50)
I'm almost POSITIVE I just heard the CBC use this mix behind a news item about actual time travel experiments (with subatomic particles albeit). Kudos to you! The show was "As It Happens" on CBC Radio 1. I'll see if there's a link to the piece somewhere. Usually when they podcast the stuff from the CBC they remove all music for copyright reasons, but not sure if this mix would have been public domain.
- Allan Spears (2008.02.07 16:56)
Yep, it's definitely this piece. The timing of the music matches pretty much exactly. You can find the segment on the As It Happens site at www.cbc.ca/radio
- allan (2008.02.08 06:44)
This is a facinating piece I would like to use this maybe if possible
- Doctor who111 (2008.02.24 18:00)
I just discovered this site and have listened to dozens of these, but this one is my favorite so far. Extremely well done transistions. After I heard the return of the Middle 8 on the new series, I was overjoyed - I then cobbled together my own medly of the evolution of the Middle 8s over the years. This one however is much better than my attempt. The only thing that it would need for total completeness would be inclusion of the one-off "Delaware" synthesizer mix from 1972. The harshness of that one might not fit very well in such a medley, but I'd like to hear it. (I put it in my own medley) I've yet to find a single cover on this site that references the Delaware version.
- Andy T. (2008.03.16 06:25)
I also add to the votes for a regenerations 2008, but the only thing is that i cannot imagine just where the transition would go in, as it is a very different theme to the 2005-2007 theme.
