This one is simple and starts off with Derbyshire and ends with Gold, with the best of each of the others in between...

Very slick mix. I really like how each version blends into the next one. Excellent work.
- Jenny (2005.04.19 21:47)

- Iain (20/04/2005...UK.) (2005.04.19 23:30)

- Iain.... Sorry for the last post, first time I have used the site. Very clever. I like the way each version roles into the next. Brilliant (2005.04.19 23:32)

Me like...me like a lot :)
- Michael (2005.04.20 00:43)

Some really clever mixing, it is great to hear the new theme tune in with the classic and the 80's versions.
- Shemyaza Azraial (2005.04.20 00:46)

Awesome Mix!
- Alex Stone (Texas) (2005.04.20 03:00)

I can just picture a visual sequence that would show each Doctor, one morphing into another at the appropriate point! The only one we lost was Paul McGann... Nice work!
- Mantrashak (2005.04.20 06:16)

Great one Nick, picked out all the great elements for each Theme. I'm glad someone has finally done this, something i mentioned you could do in the fusion comments i made. I will be enjoying this mix for ages...yum! :-P
- Tim (2005.04.20 11:19)

Thank you Nick! Another superb mix, and definately beats the pants off your past fusion, although they are still great. Only thing I missed was the McGann tune, which is one of the better ones.
I wish someone would do a mix of McCoy and McGann, that would rock!
- MichaelG (2005.04.20 11:54)

Well done! I've done stuff like this before, but never with transitions of such high quality. I also particularly like the end part. You seem to have mixed together the wind bubble, the "doosh," and the McCoy flash all together!
- Danny Stewart (2005.04.20 11:56)

I totally agree with Danny, love the end bit with that trace of each of the themes. I also love what you've done with the McCoy section — it sounds much heavier and more sombre — I'd love to hear the whole of the McCoy theme treated that way if it's possible because it really gives it a new lease of life.
- DB (2005.04.20 12:35)

OH MY GOD!!!!! the bit where the 7th doctor music kicked in just made my hairs stand on end literally, EXCELLENT work

matt
- matt chambers (2005.04.20 13:33)

Great mix, the flow from one theme to the next was smother then your first attempt, though I do really lov the Derbyshire Howell mix, breath taking!. But I too have to agree with the McCoy theme. How did you make it more darker, and would we be able to hear the whole the McCoy theme in the way you have remixed it.
- ASJ (2005.04.20 15:09)

Thanks for your very hard work :)

How about reducing the 7th doctor segment and replacing it with a
Debnney (8th Dr) bridge leading straight into Gold torwards the end?

- Mr Kipling (2005.04.20 16:59)

I've been waiting for something like this for ages. Well done!
- Leon (2005.04.20 17:12)

Yeh there is no McGanntheme here, but your rendition of the McCoy theme was teh awesome!
and yeh put in another request for the full version of your rendition of the McCoy theme!
- ladymecha (2005.04.20 20:49)

Me again. Been listening to this mix a couple of times and came across another potential mix. How possible would it be to have your rendition of the McCoy theme (the bassline) with Golds drums and orchestral bassline, harmony and Derbyshires Melody mixed into one? Just a suggestion as when I listened to the McCoy version flow into Golds version the percussion and orchestra mixed well. Difficult or possible??
- ASJ (2005.04.21 01:33)

I think the main problem would be separating the (Glynn) bassline out from the melody. Indeed I think it would have to be completely rebuilt from just a few small samples in the same way as I did in the howell/derbyshire fusion. This is thwarted by the presence of sound effects over any potential isolated bassline samples. If it's not impossible it's certainly very difficult!
- Nick (2005.04.21 02:13)

You always seem to rise to the challenge though! I put in my vote for a reworking of the McCoy version too, since it always was my favourite.
- MichaelG (2005.04.21 11:35)

Nice one ...this is well done and shows true appreciation of all the themes
- JoGGer (2005.04.21 15:01)

What can I say ,this piece that Nick has put together is just brilliant
- Matt (2005.04.21 19:09)

Very good indeed. I wish the McGann theme was in there, but I understand why, being as there's not much of it to sample. I would also like a full version of your McCoy theme, and possible a McGann version if you ever do one. And ofcourse an updated Evolution with the include McGann theme. And if you could do any ??->Gold themes, I'd really appreciate it. :D Again m8 nice work.
- NickR (2005.04.21 20:17)

Very well done. The best multi-theme montage I've ever heard anywhere on the web. Keep up the good work.
- Alan G. (2005.04.22 00:55)

Truly amazing, excellent job really takes you threw the ages.

The only bad point was we missed mcganns,
- Eddy Williamson (2005.04.22 11:58)

The thing I like most about this remix is how the new Murray Gold theme works so well in transition. I have a new appreciation for the Gold theme that I didn't have before listening to it as part of this mix. Excellent work!

Did you alter the tempo of the McCoy era theme to get it to mix better (lowering it) thus the 'darker' feel?

I have to say that if Doctor Who is ever cancelled for good (he uses all his regenerations) this would be the perfect theme (plus any new themes to come added on) to play as the closing credits roll.

Again, really well done!
- Allan Spears (2005.04.22 12:09)

Absolutely brilliant - I hadn't quite realised how much the theme had changed, but listening to this I could immediately bring to mind which doctor matched which tune - no idea how. Thanks for evoking so many happy feelings! Really clever - thanks.
- Justin (2005.04.22 14:24)

Another great piece of work Nick. Alot of people hate McCoys era music, but I really like it. I used to own it as part of a BBC Theme tunes tape. I feel the Glynn rendition is the worst. The new Murray Gold version has grown on me and gives the new series a regal feel.
- Jonny Porter (2005.04.22 14:44)

It's interesting reading the comments so far in that people are really impressed not just with the montage in general but particularly with the McCoy music section.

The McCulloch arrangement is very over the top in hindsight, but at the time it was perfectly in keeping and certainly in keeping with McCoy's take on the part. If you can get past the loudness of it in places, what comes over is a sort of 'weirdness' present in the melody. This Evolution mix changes it so well that that feeling takes superiority, without all the brashness that can weaken the TV version. So I'd love to hear a remodulated version from you in the future.

Looking forward to the next mix
- DB (2005.04.23 06:31)

Im impressed, could you also try a version starting with the hartnell base line then morph itno the 66-79 theme with "spangles" just before the harmony kincks in, if that makes any sense, lol...also would be interesting to try the pilot version which had the "thunder clap" & also maybe try incorporating the magann theme between mccoy & eccleston, would be very interesting to hear....other than that spot on for the musical timelime
- Rob (2005.04.23 08:57)

The one complaint I have with this mix, and it's really not the fault of Nick, is that the Glynn theme has absolutely no bottom end and feels sadly weak in contrast to every other version (even the McCulloch mix). That may be a faithful representation of the mix, but it would have made for a better whole, IMO, if the Glynn mix had been given a bit of EQing to bring up the bottom end to the same level as the others. Of course, it can be difficult to boost something that just isn't there... :(
- mutagene (2005.04.23 09:42)

The Glynn mix always was the weakest of the lot. I was disappointed first time I heard it. This mix really just emphasises how bad it was compared with all the others!
- Mantrashak (2005.04.23 14:04)

Brilliant work! If the 'glynn' part is at 1:23 -> 1:45, then I agree, it's so weak compared to the others. Any chance of making a 'vamped' version with the Derbyshire/Howell Bumbly-bum underlying this section to bring it 'up' to the others, by bringing the bass 'down' to the others?

This is now my favourite remix on this site (okay, joint with Toxic Adventurer, but that just makes me laugh)..

- Another Nick, from 'somewhere north' (2005.04.23 16:04)

Very well done on this mix, they all blend in with each other perfectly, A great tribute to the years of Doctor Who

Well done againx
- Chris (2005.04.24 04:12)

Beautiful, "seamless integration" as the java developers say. But this is far better than Java! I really enjoyed this mix.
- jeriwho (2005.04.24 05:34)

thank the lord you kept the over flamboyant McGann theme out I say and kept the underrated 'Trial' version in
- JoGGer (2005.04.24 07:18)

Absoultly top class! Loved it!
- Chris RIce (2005.04.24 13:23)

The more I listen to this, the more I appreciate your expert mixing, especially the 'wind up' into the Gold section. Absolutely first-class. You've also selected all my favorourite 'bits'. I'm looking forward to your next release :)

Well done!

- Nick - 'Somewhere north' (2005.04.25 03:44)

Hey Nick , when can we expect another gem like evolution.
- Matt (2005.04.26 02:43)

Wow, wow, wow! Very good! Your best "fusion" yet! Great stuff!

One question, the version of the Murry Gold theme you used, it was the best I'veheard yet! Can you please tell me where I can get it?
- JDX (2005.04.26 04:56)

Easily the best Doctor Who mix I've ever herd. Nice to finally have the version where all the themes blend together........although the McGann theme would have been better than that cheesy Trial of a Time Lord theme. Can't wait for your next mixes.
- Ian (2005.04.28 08:58)

Tremendous! I liked the way each arrangement segued into the next and the build-up into the current theme by Murray Gold gave me goosebumps.

Great work and I look forward to hearing your next one

- Chris (2005.04.28 15:10)

Excellent Remix - Well DonE !!!!!!!
- Daza Man (2005.04.30 11:56)

Outstanding work!!!!!!!!!!!! A blend of all styles.
One nitpick. I didn't notice Paul McGann version. Though i could be wrong.
- Grimlock (2005.05.01 03:36)

Love this - it's just great!
- M (2005.05.02 03:29)

Very good. Fantastic. I just wish that the latest theme went on a bit longer.
- Joen_ii (2005.05.04 07:47)

ABSOLUTE SHITE! IT IS THE BIGGEST PILE OF SHIT I HAVE EVER LISTEN TO IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! CRAP
- Jay (2005.05.04 11:26)

I just want to add, that by calling it 'shite' you are criticising not only the remixer but the people who originally conceived the arrangements. I would have liked to see more constructive criticism other than its crap. Maybe you could explain why you think that?
- Anonymous (2005.05.05 15:50)

Agreed, explain yourself if you will.
- JDX (2005.05.06 00:50)

Don't expect an answer from Jay anytime soon... (^_^)V
- mutagene (2005.05.06 11:35)

Just to let you know, I originally did try mixing in the McGann theme, but getting Gold to follow on from it just doesn't seem to work out. But we have to ask - does it really count anyway?
- Nick (2005.05.10 09:52)

I think you've got to say that it counts because it's an official arrangement of the theme, like Paul McGann is an official BBC Doctor. However, I do agree with comments I've seen that what really let the TV Movie theme down was that it sounded like everything else at the time, which is something that the 60's theme definitely didn't. That's why I prefer David Arnold's 8th Doctor theme, even though it's not part of the TV series, maybe that would work better leading into Gold's music?

And I'm sorry I'm going to have put in another request for a darkened McCoy theme. What you've done with it in this mix is sheer class, it really is.
- DB (2005.05.10 12:31)

Maybe I'll try again to mix McGann in there somehow. I've sent in the McCoy theme I used but perhaps my emails aren't getting through.
- Nick (2005.05.13 02:38)

Excuse me... I have to pick my jaw up off the floor...
- E. Adam Thomas (2005.05.14 03:21)

Fantastic! More please, and add another vote forthe mc coy theme all done like that!
- Celebgil (2005.05.16 08:00)

I liked it very much apart from the rendition of mc coy's theme. It just doesn't sound right but apart from that its great!!!!!
- Tom (2005.05.19 07:53)

After listening to a fair number of these posts, I believe this is my choice for number one on the true-to-the-originals versions. Nice transitions when changing themes. This took me back to my childhood, when over here in the US, I watched this late at night on PBS. Interesting that our educational television put on the likes of your "Doctor Who" and "The Goodies". I guess it is so we get a taste of the UK culture!
- CDB (2005.05.20 22:03)

Best contribution on the site so far (Although obviously simply mixing stuff is generallly easier than creating new versions).

Coudl we have a version with less cheesey Seventh Doctor stuff, I hate that version of the tune. Not massively keen on Trial of a Timelord 6th Doctors version either.. but thats an aside. and just my personal preference of course.

I loved your Hartnell / Troughton / pertwee and into Baker / Davison title pieces. They were pretty much seamless and very carefully mixed at the right points in the themes to get the best effect.

Perhaps some orchestral 8th Doctor strings etc would be better placed before the murray Gold ending (I understand the tempo and pitch would have to alter for that..but I'm sure you can do that no problem). However, you did really well to mix in the MG version so well to the synth versions...trouble is the new version is so much more "professional" than the 80's synth ones that its always going to be hard to get that totally perfect...but you got near enough, darn it!

On the face of it, excellent indeed. One for the MP3 player! Top Marks
- Mark Lewis (2005.05.25 18:37)

Nick
I have a Debney / McGann theme that was previewed at a convention way back in 95'ish
its 2.2 mb and runs @ 176kps lasting 1min 46 sec
nice & clear.

if you want I can mail it to u
contact me at
hhgoat@yahoo.co.uk
- Mr Kipling (2005.05.30 12:19)

I don't think it's a case of the McCoy theme being bad in itself (as some of the criticisms have been about), but it just doesn't work in the style that Nick has created - which is excellent, I must say. Another top-notch mix, Nick!
- Cyril Washbrook (2005.06.04 05:20)

ABSOLUTELY SUPERB!!! But It Would Be Even Better If You Could Put The TVM Theme It Would Be Superb!
- Anonymous (2005.06.05 07:14)

I also agree with JDX, mutagene and anonymous. Maybe Jay is just jeaulous.

- George W. Bush (2005.06.07 10:38)

Absolutely brilliant - great seguing together - must have been very difficult - I attempted something similar a few years back . . and failed abysmally! ha!
- Tom (2005.06.07 14:31)

Impressive. I really like it. Very clever.
- AdderTheBlack (2005.06.09 18:56)

Please put movie theme in please with cherry on top
- anonymous (2005.06.12 11:42)

I'm afraid that the modified McCoy theme cannot really be put up here because strictly speaking it's not a remix. However I did manage to create a version of Evolution with the McGann theme slotted in, but it's just not as good!
- Nick (2005.06.16 14:49)

Awesome and addictive even without the McGann theme!

- AgComp (2005.06.16 17:21)

I'd like to hear a version of this with the Delaware theme. Cheesy as it was, it still counts as an "official" Doctor Who Theme, as it did make it to transmission on episode two of "Carnival of Monsters" with Jon Pertwee in Australia. :)

Great job mate!
- Bobby Clark (2005.06.20 20:56)

I LOVE THIS
- STU (2005.06.25 08:37)

Excellent work mate, I just wish it went for 20 mins or more
- Tone 2005.07.05 17:50 (2005.07.05 00:50)

please put delia waretheme in as it would be so much better
- blabla.com (2005.07.08 00:01)

excellent
- Anonymous (2005.07.10 04:02)

that last one was me
- blabla.com (2005.07.10 04:03)

Since everyone else seems to be asking for the Mccoy theme can i put in a request for more Baker? Great...something UKTV Gold could have done with when they did the Doctor Who@40 celebration.
- Pydos (2005.07.12 02:13)

This piece is overall pretty good. But, the this particular piece does start fast and stays that way until the end where the tune limps it's way into the morgue where it dies tragically. Why? I listened to the Ecceleston theme not long ago and I said...ugh it stunk. The final section of this tune is unfortunately that......stunkarama.

The last segment brings the overall tune down a lot I'm afraid.
Rating- a 4 out of 10.
- starfire15. (2005.07.20 11:32)

yes i agree Shemyaza Azraial, good to hear the 80s tunes at their best, some better then others though. Still prefer the heavier base line.
- gazzer (2005.07.26 01:24)

I got re-hooked on the Doctor Who theme after watching an episode of the new series here in Canada on the CBC. Have been looking for a decent version on the internet to donwload ever since. Ironically, this 'evolution' remix is the smoothest and most intact. Quite amazing, actually - that I would feel most comfortable with the one that is almost literally a pasting together of many versions. The essence of the theme still comes through better than ever. Well done.
- http://cybermenace.blogspot.com/ (2005.07.27 13:47)

Very, very cool. The seamlessness of it is really great. Good job!
- Jonathan D. Parshall (2005.07.31 04:45)

GREAT I LOVED IT I PUT IT ON MY IPOD ALONG WITH ALL UR OTHERS MATE WELL DONE
kepp up the great work

From Mack
- Mack (2005.11.14 22:47)

OMFG I hate this type of music but this is AWSOME!!!!
- RipRapRaaa (2005.12.15 16:34)

Marvellous: I love it! It really does the theme tune justice. The way it just kicks into the Murray Gold version at the end is amazing. The only theme part to suffer at all is the McCoy version due to the bass line sounding, errr, well, not very bassey! Overall though, great stuff.
- Nick Mellish (2005.12.17 16:00)

I love the way the ninth doctor version comes in as if it has always supposed to be there. What I would advise to anyone who's downloaded this is that they should record the thirty seconds of the tenth doctor theme from the BBC Website, and fade it into the end, it really gives the sense of an epic (Although I must say the Murray Gold Middle 8 is a bit too reminiscent of the TV Movie) I don't know whether I'm allowed to post links but it's at http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/news/cult/news/drwho/2006/01/03/28476.shtml
- JLaidlaw (2006.01.07 19:07)

If anybody can record this bit off the BBC website, I sure would be grateful. I can play it but not record it. (Note, they don't FORBID you to record it.)
- jeriwho (2006.01.08 06:47)

Jeriwho, have you seen my theme repository web site? There's all sorts of TCI clips up there.

- Danny Stewart (2006.01.08 07:43)

so cool it would be a good theme for a serial or audio book the Ten Doctors
- The Lat time lord (2006.04.25 22:28)

I like this mix the best, it has everything all rolled into one. Fantastic.
- veggiedude (2006.05.06 16:20)

Beautiful piece, a fantastically time-travelling mix.
- OddCinema (2006.05.09 14:25)

Nick this.... is Clearly a work of art on your part! really bloomin great! i would like to point out that you have put the McGann (Movie) theme in & blendid brilliantly with the 9th-10th DrWho theme very well and was quite clear in section 02:29 - 02:42 ur a Genious! and i wish i cud spell lol "wink" x overall! great great great!!
- Wildsuxen (2006.05.31 17:55)

i have one word to describe that whole song...........wow. im not familiar with the previous sountracks to the doctor who program but when i heard the 9th doctor's tune........
- aerodj (2006.07.29 05:51)

This is absolutely awesome, i love it! Well done that man! I've never heard any remixes before and i love it. It all fits together brilliantly! I havent heard some of the other tunes before and that put them all into one Perfectly. So Thank you and Well Done.

FANTASTIC! I started to giggle because I wasn't expecting the 80s theme. Very, very enjoyable. And the crossfading! Exquisite XD Definately one of my favorites. I would put it on my ipod...but I don't own one ^_^;
Really quite wonderful :D
- jupi (2006.11.03 10:27)

Absolutely £&%$ing brilliant. I came across the site by accident... i was just looking to find a downloadable version of the current theme for my 6 year old son and hit upon your utterly fantasitc remix from the early to current versions. It put a huge grim on my face!
- Donnie Darko (2007.01.02 02:56)

Thank you. U are DA BEST!! I have been waiting for something like this for 2 years

Wow, Jay, I can't believe you actually sat there for 13 minutes and did all of that. You suck. Keep the comments about the remix, people.
